Abstract

This article explores the contribution of Israel’s educational system to the country’s sustainable development agenda. It provides an in-depth overview of institutional structures, policy priorities, and statistical indicators that characterize the current state and trajectory of Israel’s education sector. Rather than presenting education as an isolated sector, the analysis positions it as an interconnected mechanism influencing social equity, economic growth, and technological advancement. Emphasis is placed on how the structure and evolution of Israel’s education system — particularly in higher education — support the formation of human capital aligned with the needs of an innovation-driven economy. The article investigates how inclusive policies and equitable access to education foster social cohesion and mobility, which are key pillars of sustainability.
Additionally, the research delves into public investment strategies, assessing how the effective use of financial resources enhances educational quality and institutional resilience. The role of educators, curriculum modernization, and digital integration are examined as catalysts of transformation. Special attention is given to how education policy in Israel adapts to global technological and environmental shifts, ensuring that graduates are equipped with relevant competencies for emerging industries. The article highlights the link between educational reforms and the broader strategic priorities of the Israeli state, demonstrating how the education system supports national innovation and security. The work also addresses systemic challenges, including disparities in access, regional inequalities, and cultural diversity. Drawing on comparative insights and policy analysis, the study offers evidence-based recommendations aimed at strengthening education’s role as a strategic foundation for a sustainable, inclusive, and competitive Israeli society.
