Abstract
The authors of this research work analyze the dynamics and perspectives of rural tourism and agritourism in the Republic of Moldova in the context of global socioeconomic transformations and new consumer preferences in the post-pandemic period. The main objective of the study is to evaluate the potential of this sector as a driver of sustainable economic growth for rural communities. The methodology used includes a SWOT analysis of the agritourism sector, analysis of economic and financial performance indicators, and interpretation of statistical data provided by the National Bureau of Statistics for the period 2022–2024. The research results indicate significant resilience in incoming tourism, which grew by approximately 17% in 2024, largely driven by the wine and gastronomy sector and the “Wine Route” program. However, the analysis identifies serious structural barriers, such as underdeveloped road infrastructure, the concentration of accommodation facilities in urban areas, and the low level of digitalization among small businesses in rural areas. The conclusions of the research emphasize the need for a comprehensive strategy to turn these weaknesses into opportunities by utilizing European pre-accession funds and strengthening international partnerships.
Agritourism is presented not only as an alternative to mass tourism, but also as a vital tool for revitalizing cultural heritage and improving the quality of life in the villages of the Republic of Moldova.
